Best Austin Picnic Spots for the Fall

with 3 comments

Fall is underway in Austin! Some of may be confused by the timing of this post – why would we throw out a bunch of picnic ideas when winter’s on its way? Truth is, fall’s one of the best times of the year for an ATX picnic – the stinging heat has worn off, and the air’s between 65 and 85 Fahrenheit. Time to grab the local pumpkin ale (it’s hard to grow apples here) and buttered squash and lounge outside. Since it doesn’t rain here anymore, you’ll need a blanket…

The map above shows 10 of Austin’s best picnic spots, hand-picked (subjectively) by the in.gredients team. It was hard to settle on 10, since Austin has hundreds of great locations for a picnic! Perhaps you’ll add some more great suggestions to this post.

Butler Park (Barton Springs and Dawson, 78704)
Kite Field (Barton Springs at Stratford, 78746)
State Capitol (11th and Congress, 78701)
Festival Beach (Chicon and Nash Hernandez, 78702)
Red Bud Isle (Red Bud Trail at the Colorado River, 78703)
East Side Soccer Club (Tillery and Goodwin, 78702)
Central Park (38th and Guadalupe, 78756)
Lake Park (Mueller Blvd and Simone, 78723)
Mount Bonnell (Mount Bonnell Road, 78731)
Allen Park (Westside, south of Hart Lane, 78731)

Have you ever picnicked at any of these spots?

  1. Red Bud Isle is a TERRIBLE place for a picnic!

The entire island is an off-leash dog park!

    • True true, but if you don’t mind meeting a few dogs, it’s a beautiful spot!

  2. I’d like to find a quiet picnic location near water or on a hill top. I think the dogs at Red Bud would be too interested in our food. lol Is there any water in Bull Creek. I know with the drought water might be hard to find. I appreciate any and all help you have.
