Weekly Recipe: Creamy Potato Soup

This recipe comes to you from Katy, our “Food Prep Ninja.”  Ask for a taste next time you’re in – we’ve got a hot batch on the burner this week!  Then take home the in.gredients and make some of this deliciousness for yourself.

  • 1lb Yellow potatoes, washed, peeled diced 3/4″
  • 1/2 Yellow Onion, diced small
  • 2 Stalks Celery, washed, split lengthwise 2 times, diced small
  • 1 T Better-Than-Bouillon Vegetable Base
  • 1/3 C Milk
  • 1T Flour
  • 3 T half and Half
  • 1 Qt water (boiling)
  • 1 t Outer Spice
  • 1 T Salt
  • 1 T Coconut oil
  • Bac’uns for Garnish

  1. Saute onions in coconut oil until translucent, add celery, cook until tender
  2. Dissolve bouillon in 1.5c water
  3. Add potatoes, bouillon, and the remaining water to pot.  Cook until potatoes are mostly tender, about 10 min.
  4. Whisk together milk and flour, and add to pot and cook 5 more minutes
  5. Use submersion blender to blend partially, retaining some chunky texture.
  6. Add Outerspice and half and half
  7. Garnish each serving with Bac’uns

Wine of the Week

HaaK 2012 Tempranillo

This is an intensely dark, rich, and velvety smooth Tempranillo. It has hints of cinnamon, cocoa powder, and ripe blackberries, and, like all of our wines, is made with 100% Texas grapes. It is a perfect companion to that juicy rib-eye steak or any cut of quality red meat. If you want to make a statement at your next backyard grill off, this is the wine for you.  Let us pour you a glass at the front counter to enjoy on our porch, or take a bottle home for 10% OFF.

Coffee of the Month: Third Coast Coffee Double French

What does it mean to be Double French? Third Coast’s ultimate dark roast doesn’t require the pedigree of a Chevallier-Bardot or the ennui of a Cafe Sartre; it already has all it needs with that smokey and mysterious “je no se qua.”  Dark as the existential universe, their Double French Roast would light your cigarette for you (if you smoked, which you shouldn’t).
